UNESCO Chair of Bioethics

UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the Universitat de Barcelona, founded in 2007, framed their work on respect and promotion of human rights and advocates a conception of multidisciplinary, flexible and secular bioethics. It builds on the experience gained by the Observatori de Bioètica i Dret de la Universitat de Barcelona in the fields of research, training, knowledge transfer to other countries through networking. Its main objectives are tocontribute, in the field of universal thought on Human Rights, to global debate, both plural and multidisciplinary, on the principles and fields of study in Bioethics, to promote an integrated system of activities covering research, training and spreading ideas in the field of Bioethics and to facilitate collaboration between highly qualified researchers and distinguished professors from universities and higher education institutions in Spain, Europe, America and Latin America and the Caribbean in addition to other areas in the world. The Chair will also contribute to conveying the experience acquired in the Bioethics and Law Observatory, in Barcelona Science Park, to developing countries in the field of research, teaching and spreading ideas, and also sharing its methodology and training activities

UNESCO Chair of Communication inCom-UAB

This UNESCO Chair, the first dedicated to the field of communication worldwide, has been developing its activities since 1989. It is attached to the Institute of Communication (InCom) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), which is responsible for management and supports it with its team and infrastructure. The Incom-UAB, created in 1997 and directed by Professor José Luis Terrón, is a university institute dedicated to basic and applied research, specialized training, social dissemination of knowledge and the provision of communication services. Likewise, the Chair is a part of Orbicom, the international network of UNESCO Chairs in Communication. Orbicom objectives are to promote the exchange of experiences between the chairs, to promote a global network of partner institutions and promoting relationships with communication professionals organizations and institutions that can fund research

UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policies and Cooperation

The UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policies and Cooperation appears in 2000, as a result of the agreement signed between UNESCO and the University of Girona (UdG), with the goal of promoting an international initiative to generate complementary relationships with other cooperation actions of the UdG. Focused on the fields of cultural policies and cooperation, the Chair contributes a new line of reflection to the UniTwin program of UNESCO and broadens the international presence of the UdG, making it a meeting and exchange place for the role of cultural policies in a world of interdependence. The Chair acts primarily in the field of cultural management, international and territorial cultural policies, relationships between educational policies and cultural policies, the training of human capital, development cooperation, and cultural diversity

UNESCO Chair in Education, Development and Technology

The UNESCO-URL Chair’s mission is to apply a university cooperation model based on the integral education of people, research and knowledge transferal, thereby strengthening an integrated system of actions. The latter specifically focus on education, science and technology and all in pursuit of a fundamental objective: research has to have a positive impact on human development.  The Chair’s objectives include, on the one hand, promoting and consolidating relations between member countries through the creation of inter-university cooperation networks. On the other, it strives to strengthen the higher education institutions themselves, thus ensuring the continuity of their projects implemented within the framework of the Chair. To fulfil its objectives, the Chair organises spaces for debates (conferences, seminars, etc.), prepares educational material and publications, and implements its University Cooperation for Development (CUD) projects. In addition, it also organises undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has a PhD programme in specific fields for both professors and researchers in developing countries

UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change was created in 2002 to promote research, training, information and documentation on the intensive use of ICT in education. The Chair focuses its activities in the areas of creation and dissemination of knowledge through its annual International Seminar, roundtables, participation in social networks and other activities, applied research in the fields of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Gender and Technology, specialized training workshops on relevant topics e-learning and participation in conferences, seminars and international forums

UNESCO Chair in Food, Culture and Development aims to promote research and education in three main areas: food, culture (including knowledge, social diversity and different local adaptations) and development (covering areas such as nutrition, rural development, local and global economy, business, communication, regulatio , promotion of best practices, etc. ) The purpose of the UNESCO Chair is to promote, through research and education, the understanding of food as a social and cultural element. It does so by improving the links between education, research and development of sustainable agriculture, and focusing on the role of ICT and digital literacy through experience and knowledge of the University

This Chair was formed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and aims to promote an integrated system of activities involving research, training, information and documentation in the field of intercultural and interreligious dialogue in the Mediterranean. At the same time it is the instrument which facilitates international academic cooperation and collaboration in the field of scientific research. Moreover, the chair stimulates communication with civil society, with tools such as information and communication technologies, audiovisual resources (in particular documentary cinematography) and other media which try to encourage dialogue and peace

UNESCO-FCB_UOC Chair of Sport as a tool for the social coexistence and conflict resolution  The main objective of the UNESCO-FCB-UOC Chair of sport as a tool for the social coexistence and conflict resolution is  promoting social cohesion and resolve conflict situations peacefully through sport. The Chair provides procedures, attitudes and skills to enable students to analyze and apply the possibilities of sport as a tool for educational intervention and transmitting values in contexts of low social coexistence and high conflict





UNESCO Chair of Sustainability

The main objective of this UNESCO Chair is to become a critical, reflective, open and interdisciplinary space, to help technology refocus on sustainable development, to reduce imbalances and to strengthen diversity. Other objectives are to be an instrument to facilitate the collaboration between teaching staff of the UPC and other high learning institutions in the North and especially in the South, develop, in cooperation with other universities, an innovative approach that prepares students for the careers and lifestyles of the XXI century global society, act as a platform to promote the dialogue between government, local authorities, companies, unions, scientific communities, NGOs, etc., and therefore contribute to policy formulation, adopt a holistic approach to global change that rests on a multidisciplinary basis and understands the integration of scientific facts and knowledge with humanistic principles and objectives and address the North and South development models providing a space through which students from different cultures can communicate and share experiences to gain a better mutual understanding through its teaching and research program

UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Human Development

From Convention August 9, 2004 between the Department of Universities, Research and Information Society of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat de Girona to help finance the UNESCO International Chair, Universitat de Girona  created the UNESCO Chair Sustainable Human Development by agreement of the Governing Council of 28 April 2005; with the same date, the rector appointed director of this Chair Dr. Jordi de Cambra. This agreement was renewed by a new agreement between the Department of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat de Girona, dated July 9, 2007. The January 18, 2011 a resolution of the governing Dr. Ana Maria Geli appoints Dr. Ana Urmeneta Garrido as director of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Human Development at the Universitat de Girona. Dr. Jordi de Cambra is the General Coordinator of the International UNESCO Chair "Sustainable Human Development: Equity, Participation and Intercultural Education" Red UNESCO / UNITWIN "Medeuramérica for human development"

UNESCO Chair in Visual Health and Development, created in 2002 and the Visual Health Observatory, born in 2003 as an NGO linked to the Chair, working towards a common strategic objective: the availability of people and underprivileged visual health services and improving the quality of the same groups. Located in Terrassa campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), the UNESCO Chair in Visual Health and Development is a unit of higher education and research adapted to the needs of sustainable development. Its members work for the underprivileged have access to decent visual care through three courses of action: Training, Awareness and Advocacy , Research and Cooperation

UNESCO Chair "Women, Development and Cultures" 

The UNESCO Chair "Women, Development and Cultures" started its activities in 2004, joint headquarters at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and the Universitat de Vic. The management and business plan at the headquarters of the UB develops from the Centre Dona i Literatura-Gender, sexuality, cultural criticism. Since its inception the functions of the department, consistent with the objectives and thematic fields of action, have focused on the research and promotion of women´s studies, gender and sexuality from the analysis of cultural discourses as literature, cinema, philosophy, history and art. Its main objectives are to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation in the areas of gender, development and culture system and facilitate collaboration between researchers and senior researchers and international prestige and faculty of the Universities and other institutions, mainly in Catalonia, Spain and Europe and in other regions of the world
