UNESCO Chair of Bioethics |
UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the Universitat de Barcelona, founded in 2007, framed their work on respect and promotion of human rights and advocates a conception of multidisciplinary, flexible and secular bioethics. It builds on the experience gained by the Observatori de Bioètica i Dret de la Universitat de Barcelona in the fields of research, training, knowledge transfer to other countries through networking. Its main objectives are tocontribute, in the field of universal thought on Human Rights, to global debate, both plural and multidisciplinary, on the principles and fields of study in Bioethics, to promote an integrated system of activities covering research, training and spreading ideas in the field of Bioethics and to facilitate collaboration between highly qualified researchers and distinguished professors from universities and higher education institutions in Spain, Europe, America and Latin America and the Caribbean in addition to other areas in the world. The Chair will also contribute to conveying the experience acquired in the Bioethics and Law Observatory, in Barcelona Science Park, to developing countries in the field of research, teaching and spreading ideas, and also sharing its methodology and training activities |

This UNESCO Chair, the first dedicated to the field of communication worldwide, has been developing its activities since 1989. It is attached to the Institute of Communication (InCom) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), which is responsible for management and supports it with its team and infrastructure. The Incom-UAB, created in 1997 and directed by Professor José Luis Terrón, is a university institute dedicated to basic and applied research, specialized training, social dissemination of knowledge and the provision of communication services. Likewise, the Chair is a part of Orbicom, the international network of UNESCO Chairs in Communication. Orbicom objectives are to promote the exchange of experiences between the chairs, to promote a global network of partner institutions and promoting relationships with communication professionals organizations and institutions that can fund research |

UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policies and Cooperation |
The UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policies and Cooperation appears in 2000, as a result of the agreement signed between UNESCO and the University of Girona (UdG), with the goal of promoting an international initiative to generate complementary relationships with other cooperation actions of the UdG. Focused on the fields of cultural policies and cooperation, the Chair contributes a new line of reflection to the UniTwin program of UNESCO and broadens the international presence of the UdG, making it a meeting and exchange place for the role of cultural policies in a world of interdependence. The Chair acts primarily in the field of cultural management, international and territorial cultural policies, relationships between educational policies and cultural policies, the training of human capital, development cooperation, and cultural diversity |

UNESCO Chair in Education, Development and Technology |
The UNESCO-URL Chair’s mission is to apply a university cooperation model based on the integral education of people, research and knowledge transferal, thereby strengthening an integrated system of actions. The latter specifically focus on education, science and technology and all in pursuit of a fundamental objective: research has to have a positive impact on human development. The Chair’s objectives include, on the one hand, promoting and consolidating relations between member countries through the creation of inter-university cooperation networks. On the other, it strives to strengthen the higher education institutions themselves, thus ensuring the continuity of their projects implemented within the framework of the Chair. To fulfil its objectives, the Chair organises spaces for debates (conferences, seminars, etc.), prepares educational material and publications, and implements its University Cooperation for Development (CUD) projects. In addition, it also organises undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has a PhD programme in specific fields for both professors and researchers in developing countries |

UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Human Development |
From Convention August 9, 2004 between the Department of Universities, Research and Information Society of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat de Girona to help finance the UNESCO International Chair, Universitat de Girona created the UNESCO Chair Sustainable Human Development by agreement of the Governing Council of 28 April 2005; with the same date, the rector appointed director of this Chair Dr. Jordi de Cambra. This agreement was renewed by a new agreement between the Department of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat de Girona, dated July 9, 2007. The January 18, 2011 a resolution of the governing Dr. Ana Maria Geli appoints Dr. Ana Urmeneta Garrido as director of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Human Development at the Universitat de Girona.
